Wool, Wiltshire and All Manner of Wonderful Things!

I started off my challenge to go into the wild every day for 30 days, quietly, exploring the local area, getting into the garden for at least 15 minutes every day, and just looking at what is here on my doorstep. And what a surprise I had, whoever knew that Pickering had its own millennium wood, not me for sure. A new walk.

Keld Head a natural pond/lake , where we used to collect frog spawn as children. I don’t need to do that now as we have a pond teeming with tadpoles/frogs.

Along the river bank. There were three teenage girls jumping off the bridge into the river, I queried whether it  was deep enough and they said yes, I didn’t want to come over as a spoil sport so left it at that. Still don’t think it was a good idea. Should I have said more? They were being wild!

Further along the environment agency is doing their stuff and having a dredge. I think it needed it. Deep enough?

And there we have it , our very own millenium Wood

pond with fish. If you think this is a bad picture I took worse!

Chestnut tree candle!

Yellow vetch with bee

Butterfly.

Back at the start of our walk, super foxgloves and lupins planted by the roadside. Hope you enjoyed the walk.

  1. That’s . . . wild! 😉 I love the foxglove and lupines best–I keep planting foxglove and they keep dying . . .

  2. A very peaceful walk. I recently discovered a beautiful walk through a bit of park just down the road that I never knew existed. Amazing what’s on your doorstep when you just take the time to look.

    • I am glad its not just me who doesn’t know what is on the doorstep. I bought a little booklet from the library called wildflower walks round Pickerng, and there are three I didn’t know. Its a lovely book as it illustrates all the wildflowers the author has seen on each walk. This walk was a joy.

  3. A wild discovery right on your doorstep – will you walk there often now?
Foxgloves, together with bluebells, are the flowers I miss most from England so thank you for the photo. We do have some beautiful delphiniums in the garden at the moment which look similar(ish) so I’ll try to be content with those.

  4. What a beautiful place! Thank you so much for sharing.

  5. 😍 Thanks Cathy, loved it!

  8. Looks like a lovely walk. Always nice when it includes a river.

    • Thanks, and a stretch I ddin’t know existed. I am only 10 minutes walk from here, I have been to the Keld Held Pond so many times, I struggle to know how I missed that there was a public footpath next to it.

  9. Always nice to discover a new walk in your local area. Love the chestnut blossom candle.x

  10. Beautiful! Thank you for taking us along!

  11. I loved walking along with you. Walking on the Wild Side and already you have discovered a new walk close by – gold star for Cathy! I chuckled at your wry asides – a lovely post.
