15 for 2015- July update

How can it be the end of another month? It’s been so busy round here. A trip to lovely Dorset, gardening, picking blackcurrants, strawberries, raspberries and bilberries. Lots of meetings up with family, Mr T and his family, my stepbrother and his family and a visit to Wales to see my Mum, brother and sister in law.Mum has Alzheimers, and I spent a long time on several drafts of a post about that visit, but I couldn’t get it right and so judged it best to delete the lot. Suffice to say we had a lovely time together , even though Mum had forgotten I’d been within hours. And birthdays this month, three of them which means CAKE.

So how am I doing on my 15 for 2015. There is a full list, just updated on the page you should be able to see above.

15 minutes walking x 4 times a week. This was too easy a goal, I can see that now, but yes still managing this

14 bags to a charity shop, none taken this month

13 animal/bird photos- ACHIEVED! I have enjoyed doing this so much I shall keep going and then choose at the year end my favourites. I may even share the disasters of which there have been far more. Here come the first two from this month

12 meetings with friends- this month was all about family Here’s a picture of one of my brother’s dogs, he has four. Mum won’t call him by his proper name. ” I call him Whiskers”, she says, you can see why. Actually he’s a rescue dog from Cyprus and you can just imagine how his life might have been, starving, scavenging for food ,sleeping¬† in the middle of a dusty Greek road. He doesn’t know how lucky he is, hours away from being put down when my sister in law saw and fell in love with him.

11 New savoury recipes. I was struggling with this in June , but Rachel suggested I bought a cookery magazine. Clever idea, I did and I made a Moroccan chicken dish. Very tasty. Total now tried is 8.

10 handwritten letters- none this month, total stays at 4. But the really lovely thing about writing three letters in June is that I have had replies to them all. Just so nice to have a proper letter.

9 handmade cards- all those birthdays, I had a card making afternoon, result ACHIEVED.

8 and 7 no progress, but persevering with two projects towards these goals

6 trips to museums etc- 5 down now with the trip to Corfe Castle and to the Castle museum in York.

5 through to 1, nothing to update,

0 impulse purchases, already failed, and again this month with an impulse purchase of a jug in a charity shop in Dorset. It was a question of buy straightaway or not all as we wouldn’t have been there the next day. Two impulse purchases can’t be so bad can it?

Couple of final horse pictures from the New Forest, taken whilst we were in Dorset.

Family Weekend, Handmade Monday!

Well hasn’t the weather in the UK been just wonderful! Lots of sitting out in the sunshine, and even nicer for me is that Mr B and Ms G came to stay- they were going to a wedding of an old school friend of Mr B’s.

Here they are sat outside in the garden- which looks a bit wild around the edges on account of us being away.. had I mentioned that?

13.7.2013 016

And here they are in wedding finery.

13.7.2013 018

Poor Mr B- in all those clothes as he was an usher!

July is rather birthday heavy so I made some cards before we went away- had I mentioned going away before?

13.7.2013 008

These ones are all about recycling and using what is to hand.

13.7.2013 010

This one has a Star Anise in the corner- the ribbon is recycled from some packaging- paper from my paper stash.

13.7.2013 011

This one the same- the piece of string is recycled too.

13.7.13.2 001

Ribbon recycled packaging and the dried orange is a left over one from some I dried for a Christmas wreath in 2011.

Do you like?

Let me leave you with one more picture of Mr B and Ms G- they make such a nice couple don’t you think?

13.7.2013 019

Hope you all had a lovely weekend too.

Handmade cards-The Cat on the Mat!

I have Five lovely cat buttons- all different. I decided to make cards on the theme of the cat sat on the mat!

3.5.13 006

This one is stitched on 14 count Aida fabric using two strands of embroidery floss, the stitch is cross stitch.

3.5.13 007

This one is again 14 count Aida and two strands of embroidery floss. The stitch is a canvas stitch called Chequer stitch. I have sent this one on a journey to wish my Mum a Happy Birthday on Tuesday- she will be 85!

Here the cards are both together.

Looking forward to making mats for the other cats!

What are you making this weekend?

Pressed Flowers into Handmade cards!

Do you recall these rather sad specimens of winter flowering pansies which I decided to recycle last July, by pressing them..

Well just look at them now

Christmas 2012 009

I was so thrilled with the card- all I did was draw a circle on the card and using common or garden( no pun intended!) PVA glue stuck them down into an arrangement I liked. I was so pleased with my effort that I dug out ( how many garden puns can I now get into this post?) some flowers I pressed many years ago and hadn’t known how to use them, and made another card..

Christmas 2012 010

I love the way the forget me not looks. As I had had these a few years (possibly 11 +) there is a sort of faded elegance about them, which reminded me that I had something which could be used behind the circle of flowers..

Christmas 2012 011

And then I thought why stick to circles- why not a heart shape, so using a biscuit cutter..

24.12.12 007

which I drew round I made this card..

Christmas 2012 012

Well and truly in my stride, the next thought was to use a piece of unused wrapping paper as background .

24.12.12 005

which became this

Christmas 2012 013

by now the flowers were virtually all gone but there was just one left for a  final card..

Christmas 2012 014

So what do you think- successful recycling of dying pansies, unused pressed flowers, scraps of wrapping paper?

Love to know if you like them and if so which is your favourite? I had such fun making them in winter and being reminded that the year has now turned the corner and the days are getting longer and spring is coming!
