Knit and Natter Friday!

” Nana?”

” Yes T?”

” You like making things don’t you?”

” Yes I do .”

” I like it that you make lots of different things and give them to me  and I don’t know what they will be”.

“That’s good! Now go and put a jumper on, we are going a walk.”

” Nana, can I wear one of the bright colour ones?”

“Yes you can. “.

” Nana, I really like this one. PLEASE can you make me some more jumpers with lots of colour?”

” Yes of course I can.” Please to picture me now doing an imaginary happy dance whilst punching the air and silently yelling YES.

Could there be a better compliment?

Last Saturday in the UK was apparently National Yarn Shop day. AAAHHH.

I bet you can see where this is going especially if you were here last week.

As it happens two things I had allocated funds to fell through, to the tune of £100. Now you know where we are going.

Straight to that sale at Knitwell Wool. Now I just didn’t go there willy nilly. I checked . The prices were a genuine reduction compared to other well know sites.

Oh boy did the gremlin in my computer have a field day! The package arrived on Wednesday. ” What’s that?” asks Mr E. ” Just a bit of yarn”! says I. And maybe five patterns. Naughty Gremlin. But then T had asked for another bright coloured jumper and what sort of Nana would I be to ignore such a request?

Meantime it is on with the pink jumper for Miss F. And I did the cable heart. Oh yes!

How about that then? Not only cable but moss stitch in the middle too.  So now it’s onto the sleeves and maybe a finish for next Friday. In between times I have got on with the crochet blanket for the baby.I am using left over yarn from lots of baby clothes. It’s such fun.

So what is the nicest compliment you had about your crafting? To me, T’s unprompted request was such a lovely thing to hear.

I haven’t got a sheep this week to finish with , but a bird. To be precise a blackbird, and to be even more precise the one I mentioned this week in the photo challenge who never stands still long enough for me to capture his image. Typical, walking down to the shops, who should be on the telephone wire surveying the gardens below but you know who.

You can just about see his white tail feathers!

So over to you now for some knitting and natter. Please leap in with whatever you like in the comments and with each others comments. I do love my new Friday posts , and if anyone would like to use the knit and natter idea for a post of their own, well that would be simply spiffing.

Happy nattering!

Drum Roll please. No really DRUM ROLL. Here it is finally finished, – the white cable cardigan. It may only be a 24″ chest, but believe me it was not easy.

Who would ever have thought that 12 rows of pattern could be so hard to remember. I certainly couldn’t remember them. I had to watch what I was doing row by row and stitch by stitch. I should feel a sense of achievement but all I feel is relief. I set out to improve my knitting skills last year and learn new stuff. Have a challenge. Mmm. Well Sirdar pattern 1477 was certainly all of that. Have a look at the back.

I completed it last night with the addition of 6 buttons which I think I bought last year from a vintage fair. They are sweet little cats I think.

Or maybe bears. I was not certain if they were too pink. But as I am trying not to spend money on new bits and bobs but to use things I already have, I went with them. Actually I think the bit of colour breaks up the white quite nicely.

And I have made great progress on my fun jumper.

I just have the front bands to do , sew up and add buttons. Should get that done tonight or maybe tomorrow. The book is the Y in my read through the alphabet challenge. Couldn’t find an X author in the library but have requested one from another branch. This book is a load of tosh!

Knitting the first sleeve of the cable cardigan. I will get this done, I Will get this done, I WILL get this done , I so WILL get this done. This year I aimed to improve my knitting skills. To challenge myself. Well this cable cardigan has done just this. I can’t lose concentration for a second. If I do it is absolutely guaranteed to go Wrong immediately!

Knitting I found is something I usually do as a kind of meditation. I go into a trance. My mind wanders. I may even do some thinking. With cables I just can’t do this.  Which is why I have had two projects on the go since the summer, one to improve skills and one for fun. First the knitted village and now tinsel creatures. Yes that is another tinsel owl. Like to see where the last one has gone. She has made some good friends, let me tell you. Apparently she is a bit of a flirt. Click here to visit the one and only Wild Daffodil and the seahorses.

Meantime I had the most incredible surprise. One of my all time favourite knitting bloggers gave me a mention in her blog. Oh WOW!

The Twisted Yarn included me in her post about the best knitting bloggers. Oh Gosh! I love her blog. Not only can Phil do amazing knitting she can do it whilst walking or jogging or drinking wine. The Stoic Spouse and the twinnage make a regular appearance too. So not only is the knitting and crochet fantastic she is very , very funny too, and guaranteed to cheer you up. But don’t take my word for it, go visit… here

Reading has now moved onto the letter R. Finding a book to read by an author which surname began with an R was so hard. I choose this in the end because of the cover. Turns out that I choose a lot of books because of the cover. Anyway, think Dan Brown conspiracy novel meets would be spiritual cult book. I gather there was quite a spin off from this book. Hopefully I will find out why.
