17 for 2017-September

September was another busy month. I think it must have been , because I am a week into October before  I have  got round to thinking of this post. Let’s just take stock of the 17 goals for 2017 I set myself.

17 swims- just one this month, total now 14. Getting there.

16 hour long walks- achieved already.

15 books read from the heap by the bed- none this month, total still 13

13 cards made. Yes three this month, including this one. Total is 12. Getting there.

12 posts about Yorkshire villages- none this month, total is 4. Not getting there.

11 days out- achieved

10 new things tried- with the Faulty Towers dining experience , some research on the Adele Shaw hospital and the Repair Cafe adding three to the previous total of 9, I have got there. Achieved in September. This is the one I am most pleased with, taking myself just outside my comfort zone.

9 crochet/ knitting projects. Already achieved

8 other craft projects- I made some pressed flower cards, pressed some more flowers, and splashed a lot of paint around, then bined the result of my painting. However that adds two more , making a total of 3. Not getting there.

7 sewing projects- already achieved. However I thought you might like to see the Flamingo skirt on a model. Photo by Mrs T.

Too big, but on, and looking just like a skirt.

6 Non fiction books read still at 5, but I am learning How to read like a Professor still and I spent a lovely afternoon choosing 24 poems from this book, for my U3A poetry group. My turn in October. I had so much fun, I choose another 24 ready for my next turn, sometime in 2018!

5 family history questions answered. I spent as you know some time researching the woollen industry in the 1800s, and I now know what a cloth dresser did, which was my ancestors occupation.

Picture from a Shire booklet I bought. A cloth dresser takes the woven cloth and with those shears sort out the final appearance of the cloth. Not easy and skilled.

So that makes three- Getting there.

4 good sort outs- achieved already, although one needs doing again! Whoops

3 Interesting things found- achieved

2 picnics consumed

1 boat ride-0

0 craft purchases. well it seemed a good idea back in January!

Not too bad, but could do better on some. How are you doing with your goals for this year?

Still 1/4 of the year to go!

17 for 2017- July

What a wonderful month! Mr E had a special birthday, let’s just say he now has a bus pass.

Fortunately for him it was the day before you know what so all the family was there to celebrate.

But what was the effect of all July’s celebrations on my goals for 2017?

17 swims- 3 more this month- total now 11

16 hour long walks- achieved already

15 books from the heap by the bed read and passed on- one more this month- total 13

14 lbs lost- no idea

13 cards made- none this month total stays at 9

12 village posts- Sinnington

total is 4

11 days out- 4 more in Sussex- total is 10, more posts to follow on this.

10 new things tried-well I wore a fascinator to the wedding, never again it kept feeling as if it was falling off. I also completed a course called Medieval life in the times of Richard the third. So that makes 9.

9 knitting/crochet finishes- Achieved already

8 other craft projects- not one

7 sewing projects- still 5, but the pink flamingo skirt is nearly finished.

6 non fiction books- still 5

5 family history questions answered- 2 still

4 sort outs- kitchen cupboards done. That makes the 4

3 interesting finds- still one

2 picnics- this is for you Claire.

At the Weald and Downland Museum in West Sussex. I will share some more pictures from here next week, but here’s the view from our picnic spot and by golly that Rhubarb drink was nice.

So that is one picnic.

1 boat ride- not yet.

0 craft supplies bought, Humph, least said and all that!!

So a little bit here, and a little bit there. The secret for me  is not try to do everything at once, but just keep at it, after all this is meant to be all about Fun this year.

How are you doing with your goals for this year, are you pleased with your progress, what are your tips for staying enthused?

Good luck in August!

17 for 2017- April

Life is galloping away with me! One third of the way through 2017. It’s been an odd mixture weather wise, lots of lovely sunny days then a short blast of Summer or Winter. The daffodils are over and my garden is full of bluebells, tulips and forget me knots. As for goals, well..

17 swims- 1 more so that makes 4

16 Hour long walks- going well , thanks to son and dog!

Maundy Thursday at the start of a walk along the Roman Road above Snape. Mr J, Master H, Miss S and Ms M, and the star of the picture, is Coco. I also managed a lovely walk myself, but more of that another day. Clocked up an impressive 5 walks, giving a total of 11

15 books read from the heap by the bed- just one this month, total now 11

14 lbs lost- one word, ok two, Easter Eggs

13 cards made- total stuck at 8

12 village posts- one more this month, 2 in total

11 days out- One added this month to York

The blossom in the Museum gardens was lovely and

York Minster is as magnificent as ever. 5 now

10 new things tried- bit miffed on this, two things arranged and postponed, maybe next month. Life! Total remains 2

9 knitting/ crochet projects. Oh Bagpuss

I don’t believe it, that makes NINE. Goal achieved!

8 other craft projects- 0

7 sewing projects

One babies ball, makes 2

6 Non Fiction books- 5 now, see below

5 bits of family history research. Bit of a cheat because this involved the reading of a non fiction book too. The book was about the local school, how it was set up etc. Originally part of a charitable foundation which involved local almshouses too.One of the surnames mentioned on the outside of said almshouse is that of an ancestor, question- was that my ancestor? It wasn’t but I was rewarded with this.

A picture of my Grandfather , second from the left. Whoever thought of school teachers acting in the school play?

So although the answer was a negative I have answered another question, so that makes 2

4 sort outs-still 3, kitchen is half done.

3 interesting finds-still 1

2 picnics-0

1 boat trip- o

o craft supplies added to, already failed thanks to the gremlins visit in March. Toy stuffing bought this month for Bagpuss, but that’s allowed.

Need to go away and have a big think about these goals. Some have gone well, some not at all. How about you? How are you doing, and what motivates you to achieve the things that back in January seemed like such a good idea?

17 for 2017- The Beginning.

After all that challenging  last year, this year it’s about FUN!

17 swims

16 hour-long walks thanks Sandra from Wild Daffodil  for this idea.

15 already owned books read- I have read a lot of books this year, by and large borrowed from the library, especially once I started my read through the alphabet challenge, which will continue this year, currently reached W. But in the meantime I have acquired two enormous heaps of books which are cluttering up the place. Time to read them.

14 lbs lost- ever the optimist.

13 homemade cards

12 Photograph posts of villages. Time to explore some local villages and share them . I noticed that some readers enjoy these village pictures when they have appeared from time to time. So I figured it would be nice to make them centre stage this year.

11 days out- Always fun to go out for the day. Beats weeding anytime!

10 New things- this can be anything from food to experiences to places. Time for adventure.

9 crochet/knitting projects- I flippin’ well will finish that cardigan!

8 other craft projects

7 sewing projects- I challenge myself to conquer zips this year.

6 non fiction books read

5 research the answer to five questions about my own family history

4 jolly good sort outs, again thanks to Sandra for this one. I shall tackle the tip that is the spare room, where I am supposed to be crafting.

3 find three interesting things- thanks to Murtaghsmeadow for this idea

2 picnics

1 boat ride- rail and bus journeys are so last year!

0 purchases of any sort for new craft sewing or knitting projects, until all stash is used up or I need something to finish something, eg card/ buttons. This is not going to be fun, but it has to be done.

So that’s my 17 for 2017. Wish me luck. And good luck to anyone else brave enough to blog their goals for 2017. Please feel free to leave a link to your 17 for 2017(or similar) post in the comments.
