My beginners nine patch quilt , is done.
And on the whole I am quite a little bit proud of myself. Measuring is a challenge to me and as for being accurate to 1/4 inch , it brings me out in a glow just thinking about it. The rotary cutter terror was overcome, the mystery of the lines on the ruler and mat became clearer, and scary new sewing machine saw me changing the sewing feet with confidence.
I am ready for the next quilt….

Quilt label, no. I was just pleased when I got the whole thing joined up and looking like a quilt.
That’s a darn nice quilt, for your first one ever! It really turned out great and it has been a lot of fun, hearing about your process–your enthusiasm is amazing. And I think you’ll find the hardest part is behind you–with your newfound skills and confidence, you can tackle anything quilty!
Mmm, not sure about the anything, but my fear of rotary cutters has gone. I am looking forward to the next quilt we will tackle which involves adding a border.

She’s a great teacher and has some wonderful tutorials. I learned all my patchworking from Avis, via email, and from Jenny, watching her videos ^^

I like the repeating pattern within each square. That is a really good idea for a first quilt. And yes, be proud – be more than a little bit proud too. There’s a lot to learn in quilt making and we need to be nurtured along and have time to practise and put it all together – and you did it!! On to the next one 🙂

Thank you- blood sweat and tears certainly went into it. Yes I am proud of myself. I am so hopeless with anything that requires accuracy and this was a triumph of a kind.
Congratulations! I’m sure that you are so proud and that it won’t be the last. I hope that if you decide to do another class you are able to find a better tutor – I think, in your shoes, I might have given up with the last one.
I am going to do one more quilt with this teacher, but I plan on going at my pace, and no faster. Then I think I will have the rudiments so to speak and try by myself.
Well done, Cathy, it’s a triumph of grit and perseverance over mysterious language, uncooperative materials and a rather unhelpful tutor! I hope it hasn’t put you off the whole process, because that would be a great shame. For a first quilt, it’s pretty darn good!

If I taught you anything, it was at very long distance, very hands off and arms-length! Times like this, I wish for a Star Trek style transporter, so I could just pop over and show you! Quilter are generally very good about sharing and helping out with tips and tricks, I find.
Just being around you and other quilters in blogland has slowly drip fed me with knowledge and the opportunity you enabled me to have with the Teal it to the Mountain was wonderful. I am very grateful, and you alone know how terrible I was. You are very kind.
Not so terrible that I won’t be inviting you to join in the next fundraiser quilt! Sometimes, all it takes is encouragement. If all you ever hear is the voice in your head saying it’s terrible, you don’t progress. We need to help each other and be generous with praise and encouragement where it’s due.
