So with the addition of a scrappy border.
with some not too shabby corners
My beginners nine patch quilt , is done.
And on the whole I am quite a little bit proud of myself. Measuring is a challenge to me and as for being accurate to 1/4 inch , it brings me out in a glow just thinking about it. The rotary cutter terror was overcome, the mystery of the lines on the ruler and mat became clearer, and scary new sewing machine saw me changing the sewing feet with confidence.
I am ready for the next quilt….

Thank you. The learning experience was quite a journey!
Cathy you have outdone yourself! This quilt is beautiful! I love everything about it!
Thank you, so very kind.
Such a lovely job, Cathy! Congratulations on the finish of your first quilt!
Thank you, your words are appreciated so much
Woohoo! I knew you’d do a wonderful job. You feel a greater sense of accomplishment if it’s something that scares you in the beginning. Love the scrappy binding. Have not done one myself yet so you have one up on me. 😉 Guess I’ll have to give it a try. You did an impressive job for your first quilt.
Thank you so much.
OH Cathy! I love your quilt with all its scrappiness. (I know this is not a word, LOL) I do love all the colors though and I love that your binding is just as colorful. Hugs, Tamara
Thanks Tamarax
Oh, you should be so proud! Nicely done!
Thank you
Your quilt is terrific, well done!
Thank you.
Beautiful, you should be proud. Very well.done!
Thank you, I am proud of overcoming my own ineptitude with all things regarding measuring and I am growing to like my quilt.
HUGE congratulations on completing this GAWJUS QUILT ! ! ! ! !
So well done and much overcome. ✨✨✨✨✨ 😘🥰
Thank you. None of it came easy so I feel very proud at learning new skill
Yea! It’s adorable! I love the scrappy binding!
Thank you, producing the binding was quite a labour, but a lot of learning went on.
Well, it was worth it, it looks great!
Congratulations! First quilts will always have a special place in your heart! Great job it looks fantastic!
Thank you, such a nice kind comment.
Your first quilt will always have a special place in your heart. Have you made a quilt label for it?
Quilt label, no. I was just pleased when I got the whole thing joined up and looking like a quilt.
That’s a darn nice quilt, for your first one ever! It really turned out great and it has been a lot of fun, hearing about your process–your enthusiasm is amazing. And I think you’ll find the hardest part is behind you–with your newfound skills and confidence, you can tackle anything quilty!
Mmm, not sure about the anything, but my fear of rotary cutters has gone. I am looking forward to the next quilt we will tackle which involves adding a border.
so well done Cathy! I bet your mind is already racing to come up with ideas for the next one. Just in case you have never stumbled across her, have you checked out any of Jenny Doan’s videos on youtube: Missouri Star is all you need to search for on youtube. She’s a great teacher and has some wonderful tutorials. I learned all my patchworking from Avis, via email, and from Jenny, watching her videos ^^
Thank you and thanks for telling me about Jenny Doan I hadn’t come across her. I used You Tube a lot to explain scrappy bindings, otherwise I would have been thoroughly confused.
you’ll love Jenny, once you’ve watched a few of her videos. She’s such a cheery lady, and shows some wonderful short cuts.
Really well done, something to be proud of. I expect it makes you smile very time you look at it!
I try not to see the mistakes and just love it for what it is. Thank you.
Is that your first quilt? Wow. #Kudos, tiz lush.
Thank you,that is very kind.
Well done Cathy that is a remarkable first achievement and one you should be proud of – I hope we are going to see many more.
Well a few more anyway. Thank you, everyone has helped so much with shared knowledge and experience and encouragement.
Well done! That’s an amazing quilt, I’d never guess it was your first one ever!
I have spent at least two years following bloggers who quilt and a lot of what was written in the posts and in the comments helped me so much, like knowing that 1/4inch really means 1/4 inch and it matters. So grateful to all the bloggers.
Best first quilt ever – not surprised you are proud of yourself ❤
Oh my blushes, thank you.
I like the repeating pattern within each square. That is a really good idea for a first quilt. And yes, be proud – be more than a little bit proud too. There’s a lot to learn in quilt making and we need to be nurtured along and have time to practise and put it all together – and you did it!! On to the next one 🙂
And thank you for all your posts, you too have been a mentor, and I am most grateful.
Oh, I am so happy and smiley now ❤ Thank you 🙂
Well done Cathy, I did warn you that it was addictive 🙂
Thank you, your blog has been a real inspiration to me.
Wow! You should be proud. So much has gone into your quilt, what a triumph!
Thank you- blood sweat and tears certainly went into it. Yes I am proud of myself. I am so hopeless with anything that requires accuracy and this was a triumph of a kind.
Congratulations! I’m sure that you are so proud and that it won’t be the last. I hope that if you decide to do another class you are able to find a better tutor – I think, in your shoes, I might have given up with the last one.
I am going to do one more quilt with this teacher, but I plan on going at my pace, and no faster. Then I think I will have the rudiments so to speak and try by myself.
Well done, Cathy, it’s a triumph of grit and perseverance over mysterious language, uncooperative materials and a rather unhelpful tutor! I hope it hasn’t put you off the whole process, because that would be a great shame. For a first quilt, it’s pretty darn good!
Thank you Kate, and you were a good teacher too and I could not have done it without you and the quilting blog sisterhood.
If I taught you anything, it was at very long distance, very hands off and arms-length! Times like this, I wish for a Star Trek style transporter, so I could just pop over and show you! Quilter are generally very good about sharing and helping out with tips and tricks, I find.
Just being around you and other quilters in blogland has slowly drip fed me with knowledge and the opportunity you enabled me to have with the Teal it to the Mountain was wonderful. I am very grateful, and you alone know how terrible I was. You are very kind.
Not so terrible that I won’t be inviting you to join in the next fundraiser quilt! Sometimes, all it takes is encouragement. If all you ever hear is the voice in your head saying it’s terrible, you don’t progress. We need to help each other and be generous with praise and encouragement where it’s due.
Thank you this means a lot. It’s good to learn, and thank you.
